As the McLeod Health system expands, the organization has announced the need for a more comprehensive patient transport service. This requires enhancement of current transport capabilities to offer improved critical care and advanced life support for transfers between hospitals. The integration of McLeod Heart Reach and McLeod Child Reach into a single team, now known as McLeod Life Reach, is designed to meet this goal.
McLeod Heart Reach operates as a Mobile Critical Care Ambulance, providing emergency transport services to hospitals and patients in the region. Initiated in 1989, the Heart Reach team received training for this exclusive program in South Carolina, with patient care commencing in 1990. In its inaugural year, the team transported 177 patients, while current statistics show Heart Reach and Child Reach serve over 750 patients annually.
