Florence Town employees will be getting a 2.5% pay raise come January.
It'll cost the town $134,713, athough the Florence Reminder & Blade-Tribune reported the new budget is in a $1.5 million deficit.
Town Manager Brent Billingsley said the raise moves all employees up a step on the pay scale.
Mayor Tara Walter had asked that the town provide a 2% cost-of-living increase, or a stipend.
Florence will also pay the 9.42% increase in employees' medical, dental, and vision plans.
Police dispatchers and wastewater plant operators were already set to receive a pay raise since Florence has had difficulty filling those positions. The fleet supervisor was also already getting a raise, so those employees won't be receiving the step increase. The town also included an economic development professional for $99,200 in the new town budget.
No other pay increases were brought forth in the tentative budget that was presented to council last month. Council is set to hold a public meeting and approve the final budget next month.
