The Arizona Department of Revenue (ADOR) is highlighting key changes and updates relevant to businesses for April 2025. As National Small Business Week approaches, from May 4 to May 10, small business owners are encouraged by ADOR to search for unclaimed property that might belong to their businesses or themselves. Access to these searches is available at azdor.gov/unclaimed-property.
Additionally, the 2025 state Transaction Privilege Tax (TPT) licenses will auto-renew starting May 1. Taxpayers will need to cancel existing licenses if their businesses have closed by using AZTaxes.gov to avoid penalties.
The process of linking existing TPT licenses to new user accounts on AZTaxes.gov has been outlined. Businesses are advised to create and link user accounts rather than reapplying for licenses.
To help businesses file TPT returns correctly, ADOR emphasizes the importance of online filing through AZTaxes.gov to reduce errors. The filing deadlines for March TPT activities are April 21 for returns due, April 29 for paper returns, and April 30 by 11:59 p.m. for electronic returns and payments.
A significant fee change is set for the waste tire industry effective April 1, 2025. Fees on new tires will increase to 2% of the retail price, with a cap of $4.66 per tire.
Two city-specific tax changes are also highlighted. In Prescott, a new tax for public safety will start on April 1, 2025, with an initial rate of 0.95% before decreasing in the following decade. In Phoenix, a new ordinance will raise several tax rates from 2.3% to 2.8% starting July 1, 2025.
To help taxpayers with these updates, ADOR offers free workshops and resources online. Scheduled topics include how to avoid common TPT filing errors and detailed sessions on ADOR AZTaxes as well as business tax education.
