Last week, the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce unveiled its annual Competitiveness Agenda, which outlines the business community's key policy priorities for the 2025 legislative session. This agenda was formulated after engaging with nearly 800 local business leaders from over 30 chambers across South Carolina, including the Greater Florence Chamber, during a comprehensive 22-stop Grassroots Tour.
The Competitiveness Agenda is developed each year to propose policy solutions addressing challenges faced by job creators and businesses throughout various industries in the state. The SC Chamber board approved this year's agenda following extensive grassroots outreach aimed at understanding the most pressing issues for business leaders across South Carolina.
Business leaders have identified seven critical areas they wish the General Assembly to prioritize during the upcoming legislative session. These areas include reducing business tax burdens and modernizing the tax code, bringing fairness to an unfair tort system, addressing future energy needs of South Carolina, removing barriers to workforce participation, ensuring continued economic growth and prosperity, establishing a flourishing and resilient talent pipeline, and allowing businesses to operate without undue interference.
