The governing board of the Maricopa Unified School District unanimously approved the FY2021 proposed budget of $69.8 million at its June 10 meeting.
The budget was approved for submission to the Arizona Department of Education, according to the Maricopa Monitor.
The budget limit is made up of $57.7 million in the Maintenance and Operation Fund; $4.6 million in the Unrestricted Capital Fund; and $7.4 million for the Federal Projects Other Than Impact Aid to total $69.8 million, according to the Proposed Version of the budget.
The primary tax rate will increase to $5.22 per $100 net assessed valuation (from $4.24), the Maricopa Monitor stated. The secondary rate will decrease to $2.53 from $2.55.
The Maricopa Monitor reported that a little over 10,000 students are expected for the fall semester.
In an online letter, Maricopa Unified School District Superintendent Tracey Lopeman said that it’s anticipated that students and employees will return to school for a new school year beginning July 23.
