Ranky Tanky, a group of five friends from Charleston, South Carolina, is set to perform at the Performing Arts Center (PAC). The band derives its name from a Gullah phrase meaning "get funky" and is known for preserving the traditions of African Americans in the coastal South that originated during slavery. Their efforts have made them passionate global ambassadors for their local culture and community.
The band has received notable recognition, including winning a GRAMMY award. They have been featured on various platforms such as NPR’s Fresh Air, The Today Show, PBS Newshour, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert's #playathome segment. Additionally, they were profiled in a 10-page article in Oxford American’s South Carolina Music Issue and named 2020 Artist of The Year by the Charleston City Paper.
