SPC Credit Union has announced a partnership with Greenlight Financial Technology, Inc. to offer families access to financial education tools aimed at building healthy financial habits for the next generation. This collaboration provides SPC Credit Union members with free access to Greenlight's family finance app through the Greenlight for Credit Unions program.
A significant portion of children and teenagers, 91%, believe that acquiring financial knowledge and skills is essential for achieving their life goals, while 94% of parents agree on its importance. However, only 35 states in the U.S. mandate a personal finance course for students. Furthermore, teens score an average of 64% on the National Financial Literacy Test, highlighting a gap in effective financial education. Additionally, 81% of parents express a desire for more resources and tools to teach personal finance.
Greenlight offers a debit card paired with an app designed to educate kids and teens about earning, saving, giving, and spending under parental guidance. The app enables parents to send money instantly, automate allowance payments, manage chores, set flexible spending controls, receive real-time transaction notifications, among other features. It also provides children with practical money management experience through Greenlight Level Up—an in-app game featuring educational challenges and rewards.
