The Arizona Department of Revenue (ADOR) has issued guidance to help taxpayers avoid common errors and mistakes during tax season. These errors can lead to delays and frustration for individuals and families. ADOR suggests that taxpayers consider electronic filing as a way to streamline the process.
Electronic filing offers several benefits over traditional paper returns. It allows taxpayers to file their income tax returns with fewer mistakes and faster processing times. The convenience of e-filing includes the ability to file 24/7 from home, easy step-by-step instructions provided by e-file software, and quicker refunds—up to eight times faster than paper filing.
According to ADOR, electronic filing reduces human error because taxpayers can input or upload their figures directly into the system. This automation means no mail delivery wait time, no manual data entry, and immediate acknowledgment of receipt from both the IRS and ADOR via the software vendor.
Security is also a significant advantage of e-filing. Confidential information is encrypted during transmission to the IRS and ADOR. Additionally, e-filing is environmentally friendly by reducing paper usage.
Taxpayers have access to free filing options such as Free File through the Free File Alliance, which about 70% of taxpayers are eligible for. Arizona continues its participation in the IRS Direct File Program for 2025, offering eligible residents a seamless federal-state filing experience without needing to re-enter information after completing federal returns.
The advantages of using e-pay over paper checks are highlighted by ADOR as well. Taxpayers can combine e-file and e-pay in one step without worrying about transaction monitoring or delayed payments due to last-minute paper check submissions.
For those expecting refunds, direct deposit provides speed, security, convenience, cost savings, and flexibility whether returns are filed electronically or on paper.
ADOR encourages taxpayers interested in updates or news related to tax season to subscribe to their email service or follow them on social media platforms.
