The Arizona Department of Revenue (ADOR) has officially started accepting individual income tax returns for the 2024 tax year, signaling the commencement of the state's 2025 tax season. Taxpayers are required to submit their 2024 tax returns by Tuesday, April 15, 2025, or apply for an extension that will push the deadline to October 15, 2025.
For those looking to file their taxes at no cost, there are several options available. The Arizona Free File Alliance offers free tax preparation software for qualifying individuals. Taxpayers can access various free file services through logos on the ADOR website and electronically prepare and file their returns.
Additionally, ADOR continues its participation in the IRS Direct File program. This initiative allows eligible Arizona taxpayers to file online without any charges. The program has been expanded this year to include more types of income, deductions, and credits from day one of the filing season. An estimated 1.7 million Arizona taxpayers are expected to benefit from this tool.
While ADOR strives to process refunds swiftly, some returns may require additional review for accuracy and fraud prevention purposes, which could extend processing times.
For a list of approved software providers for electronic submissions with the Department, taxpayers are encouraged to visit ADOR's website.
