Three special proclamations were issued during the last regular City Council meeting. Mayor Nancy Smith first invited members of the Veterans Parade Committee, along with all veterans in attendance during the presentation, to be recognized. The proclamation recognized November 11 as Veterans Day and encouraged all citizens to recognize the valor and sacrifice of all veterans.
The second proclamation called up the Alzheimer's Association as Mayor Smith declared the month of November 2022 as Alzheimer's and Caregiver Month in the City of Maricopa.
"I would like to thank the Mayor and all members of City Council for this. It's important to acknowledge our caregivers, especially within our community. Their work sometimes goes unrecognized but it should always be appreciated," said Mary Burruel of the Alzheimer's Association.
The third proclamation brought together the Maricopa Art Council and the Maricopa Friends of the Arts to be recognized as Mayor Smith proclaimed support
for the arts within the community and called upon our citizens to celebrate and encourage greater participation in arts and humanities.
"We've been doing what we do in this city for over 12 year and it is magnificent to have this vote of confidence from Mayor Smith and City Council, many of whom have stepped forth to support and attend our programs throughout the years," said Judith Zaimont, Co-Founder of the Maricopa Art Council.
