Casa Grande Elementary School District has appointed Adam Leckie as the district's new superintendent of schools recently after a rigorous screening process.
Leckie, who begins work on July 1, has already dedicated himself to speaking with teachers, staff and leaders in the community to become better acquainted with the area, in addition to making waves with changes he plans to bring to Casa Grande, Casa Grande Dispatch reported.
"Our school board voted for a four-day week," Leckie told Casa Grande Dispatch. "So my job now as assumed new superintendent is to think about how best to position the school district to use a four-day school week for the benefit of students and staff. We need to be student-centered and collaborate with our families and our communities to build strong connections as we move into a new model of supporting kids in a new school calendar."
Leckie's methods have been met with support and disapproval from both sides. The superintendent of the Casa Grande Union High School District, Anna Battle, recently said that her district did not plan on adopting the four-day week, Casa Grande Dispatch reported.
"I've already had a meeting with Dr. Battle," Leckie said. "She and I had a great initial conversation. We are aligned in our belief that our two districts serve the same communities and must work really collaboratively together to support our students and families. So she and I are both committed to that and I'm looking forward to a really positive and constructive relationship between the two districts."
Leckie had been with the Florence Unified School District since 2009, Casa Grande Dispatch reported. Having worked his way through several positions prior to superintendent, Leckie is focused on providing students with quality education.
"I think we've recognized that in order to prepare students for the future, we need to think beyond traditional reading, writing and math skills," Adam Leckie said to Pinal Central. "In order for our kids to be prepared to meet the demands of society, we need to teach them things like collaboration, critical thinking, innovation, problem solving, teamwork, empathy, understanding."
