Congressman Andy Biggs compared COVID-19 data  before and after the mask mandate and says cases and hospitalizations were lower before the order.

Biggs took his assessment to Twitter with images showing the figures.

“Since Maricopa County instituted its masks mandate last year, we've seen almost 12x the number of cases and almost 10x the number of hospitalizations.” The data, according to his Twitter post, were lifted from maricopa.gov.

He also said that the data “showed 9x the number of deaths compared to the time before the mandate.”

“Masks do not slow or stop the spread of COVID-19,” he explained.

The numbers on his Twitter post were 35,689 COVID-19 cases, 2,152 hospitalizations, and 736 deaths before the mask mandate, compared to the post-mask mandate figures which are 417,009 cases, 26,866 hospitalizations, and 6,149 deaths.

Hours ago, Biggs announced that he wrote to President Biden urging him to follow science and reopen schools immediately.

“Mr. President, ‘follow the science’ has become your rally cry to get our country out of the COVID-19 nightmare that is deteriorating the morale of America’s youth,” he said. “Our children and families cannot continue to suffer any longer. We urge you to live up to your word: follow the science and work with our state and local governments to reopen our schools immediately.”
