CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION: Fitness Challenge

Fitness

City of Apache Junction issued the following announcement on Nov. 6

It is event season for Parks and Recreation and with it come the challenges of “how do we run an event without lots of folks gathering together?” We’ve taken what would be individual events in the next four months and mashed them into one big virtual challenge. The My Park = My Gym; Park2Park Fitness Challenge highlights four different parks in our community with a different challenge at each entity. The challenges are done on your own with some guidance along the way. Register your whole family and discover how you can turn our parks into your gym!

To start the challenge, we begin in our own backyard. That’s right, the November 2 mile Trail Run will take place on the beautiful desert trails located on the northeast side of the Multi-Generational Center. In December we go south to Silly Mountain Park with a “Hike and Seek” where participants can hunt for holiday ornaments as they enjoy the well maintained trails and Botanical Walk. Travel north in January to Prospector Park for a 5k Your Way! What a great way to kick off the new year with your family. Run, walk, dance or roll your way to the finish line. February is heart health awareness month. Get your heart pumping at Superstitions Shadows Park with the Healthy Heart Hustle. This challenge includes intervals or cardiovascular movement and strength exercises that anyone can do using the different equipment found at the park. Each month includes a “bonus challenge” for those that want to take their fitness challenge to the next level!

Registration is now open and can be done online or in person at the Multi-Generational Center located on the North East corner of Idaho and Superstition Blvd. Tracking booklets will be available for pick up beginning Nov. 9.  Receive your My Park = My Gym t-shirt at the end of the challenge.

Details about these programs can be found in our Citizen brochure. Pick one up at the Multi-Generational Center or find it online at www.ajcity.net/parks. Pre-registration for this programs is required so we can plan accordingly.
