The senior classes in the Florence Unified School District, which has three high schools, will all graduate on May 21 with a limitation of two visitors per graduate, according to Pinal Central.
Everyone will be required to wear face masks while at the ceremony. School officials won't be giving out the customary handshakes. Additionally, the school band won’t be there to play the usual graduation song, which is Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstance.”
However, speeches and fireworks will be permitted. Moreover, school officials say that family members won’t be permitted on the field during the celebration.
Superintendent Chris Knutsen said at a conference call style board member meeting that it isn't the usual graduation that the schools are accustomed to. However, the students will be able to graduate in person.
“Is it a traditional graduation? No, it’s not. But I think it’s something where our seniors can come up, walk across the stage and get recognized,” Knutsen said. “It’s an option I feel like if we do it safely, we can end the year for our seniors on a positive note, to finish out their high school careers.”
