The UTRGV Vaqueros, featuring former Poston Butte High School standout Colton Vercoe, were defeated 7-3 by the Rice Owls in their NCAA Division I baseball game held Tuesday, March 17, at 6:35 p.m.

The contest was played at Reckling Park and marked the teams’ first meeting of the season.

Vercoe gave up five earned runs over 2.1 innings, tallying one walk and three strikeouts.

The Vaqueros will next face the Houston Christian Huskies at Husky Field on Friday, March 20, at 6:30 p.m.
