The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has finished interim repairs on a flood-damaged stretch of US 60 between Superior and the Globe-Miami area, reopening two lanes of travel. The repairs started on October 20 after flooding damaged embankments and sections of the roadway near milepost 241, just west of Miami. This damage had previously reduced traffic to a single alternating lane.
The State Transportation Board approved $3 million for these repairs on October 23, which enabled the completion of the interim work.
Travelers between Phoenix and Globe are reminded that there will still be scheduled closures of US 60 between Superior and Globe due to an ongoing bridge replacement project. These closures may occur from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Drivers can use state routes 177 and 77 through Winkelman as a detour, though this adds about 75 miles to their journey, or they can plan travel outside closure periods.
More information about the Queen Creek and Waterfall Canyon Bridges Project and related daytime closures is available at azdot.gov/US60QueenCreekBridgeProject. For real-time highway conditions, travelers can visit ADOT’s Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov or use the AZ511 app for Apple or Android devices.
