T.J. Shope, an Arizona State Senator representing the 16th District since 2023, shared a series of posts on his X account reflecting on historical events and recent developments in his community.

On September 11, 2025, Shope recounted his personal experience during the attacks on September 11, 2001: “Back in 2001 on September 11th, I woke up to head in for another day at Coolidge High School. My alarm was set to have the radio come on and when it came on, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Some person had crashed a plane in to one of the towers of the World Trade Center.”

The following day, September 12, he acknowledged another user’s post by stating: “Thank you for sharing this @JakeHoffmanAZ.”

On September 13, Shope expressed appreciation regarding logistical changes for an event at Arizona State University: “Glad to see this has all been sorted out! Thank you @tylerbowyer & @michaelcrow and to @ASU Government Relations who reached out to me this morning to inform me of the venue change to a much larger space on campus.”

Shope succeeded Kelly Townsend as state senator after being elected in 2023 as a Republican representative for Arizona’s 16th Senate District.
