T.J. Shope, a Republican state senator representing Arizona’s 16th Senate District since 2023, shared several personal reflections and messages on social media at the close of 2025 and start of 2026.

On December 31, 2025, Shope posted about former U.S. Senator Jon Kyl, stating: “They just don’t make them like Jon Kyl anymore. A true statesman and leader who always seemed to eschew the spotlight yet always found a way to do what was right for Arizona and our country. I know I speak for my father, myself, and countless Arizonans when I say we thank him for https://t.co/K62zXQEL5T”.

In a follow-up tweet on the same day, Shope added: “Only other thing I’ll add is that Melissa and I were so thankful to be a couple of the many he took around Phoenix Raceway before a @NASCAR race. The man knew and loved racing.”.

On January 1, 2026, Shope marked the new year with another message: “We’re ready to turn the page on 2025 and welcome 2026 in to our lives! Happy New Year everyone! #NewYear2026 https://t.co/IawVmTyOV1”.

Shope succeeded Kelly Townsend in the Arizona State Senate following his election in 2023. As an elected official, his public statements often reflect both political perspectives and personal experiences within Arizona.
