The Pinal County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted Aug. 5 to appoint Dana Lewis as county recorder after Virginia Ross resigned to take over as county elections director.
Dana Lewis's term will last through December 31, 2024, according to a story by In Maricopa.
“I’m very pleased that we have been able to appoint Dana at this time," Jeffrey McClure, Chairman of the Pinal County Board of Supervisors, said in the story. "She’s highly capable, detail-oriented and eager to learn, and she also has a thorough understanding of how elections in Arizona function, which I believe is crucial for the role of Recorder.”
Lewis previously served as assistant to the recorder under Ross. Lewis joined the Recorder’s Office in January from the Elections Department.
“Dana is the logical choice to take the Recorder’s office; she has the 3 Ds – Dedication, Determination and Drive. I will work with her to ensure a smooth transition," Ross said.
Lewis is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having spent eight years in the military as a personnelist, security forces augmentee and a staff sergeant. She operated a small business before joining Pinal County as an Elections Specialist in 2019.
“I believe in stewardship of anything that is entrusted to you to include your faith, family and democracy," Lewis said. "I am stepping into big shoes, but Virginia, as well as my previous Directors in Elections, Michele Forney and Stephanie Cooper, have been amazing mentors, and I wouldn’t be in this position without them.”
A resident of Casa Grande, Lewis is a Certified Election Official for the State of Arizona. She is currently working to receive her Certificate in Election and Registration Administration from Auburn University, the story stated.
