Superior High School is one of several buildings that will receive special government funding for rehabilitation construction.
Pinal County and Gila County will receive over $360,000 this fiscal year, from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.
The funds will be dispersed amongst rural towns, cities and organizations. The purpose of the funds is to rehabilitate and repurpose buildings, demolish old buildings, cleanup and restore and reduce environmental hazards throughout the area, create new economic opportunities and build new parks and playgrounds.
According to PinalCentral.com, Mayor of Superior, Mila Besich Lira said, “These funds provide us a tremendous opportunity to work on community clean up and turn once rundown buildings into potential places for economic development. With this latest grant, we continue to advance plans for our multi-generational center project that will benefit all residents of Superior.”
The Brownfields Assistance Program will coordinate the projects using the funds from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality. Superior High School is 1 of 11 projects slated for this year.
