According to reports, Florence's local trash hauler, Right Away Disposal, is temporarily discontinuing recycling services “for the time being” due to the COVID-19 crisis that is plaguing the nation.
Right Away Disposal told Florence officials that its recycling center is operated by local jail inmates who can't leave the jail due to the virus. The disposal company says one truck will pick up garbage and recycling cans on the curb like normal.
Florence officials say residents are urged to continue their normal recycling routines to ensure things go back to normal once the COVID-19 crisis is over.
The town also announced that the normal monthly curbside bulk trash pickup is also temporarily halted.
“Thank you for your patience in these unprecedented times,” the town’s announcement said. “Know that the town is doing all it can to work with its contractors and employees to minimize the disruptions of operations due to COVID-19 by providing the maximum level of service to our residents.”
