South Carolina was the fastest-growing state in the country between July 2024 and July 2025, according to U.S. Census Bureau data released on Apr. 27.

The state’s population increased by 1.5 percent during this period, outpacing all other states. State officials attribute this growth mainly to domestic migration, as many Americans have chosen to move to South Carolina for its climate, economy, and cost of living.

“From July 2024 to July 2025, South Carolina netted 66,622 domestic migrants, meaning 66,622 more people moved into the state than out of it,” the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW) said.
