State and local officials gathered at the Hardeeville Welcome Center near the Georgia border last week to mark the start of the South Carolina Department of Transportation’s (SCDOT) I-95 widening project. The $825 million initiative will expand a 10-mile stretch of I-95 from U.S. Highway 278 to the Savannah River, increasing it from four lanes to six. The project also includes updates to interchanges and bridges to meet current standards.
Florence, South Carolina, is currently the only location in the state with a six-lane portion of I-95. Completion for this new expansion is expected by 2030. Additional details on the project are available here.
