State Representative Teresa Martinez recently acknowledged the efforts of Pinal County Sheriff’s Office Deputies Gregory Sanders and Jacob Montoya. The deputies were recognized on the Arizona House floor for their role in rescuing an eight-year-old boy from a human trafficking operation in January. During a multi-agency traffic stop, they successfully recovered the child and arrested a woman who later confessed to being paid for transporting him.
“These deputies trusted their training, asked the right questions, and refused to ignore what didn’t add up,” said Representative Martinez. “Because of their professionalism and courage, a child was removed from danger and protected.” The child was unable to identify the woman with him and seemed coached during questioning. The deputies separated him from the suspect, confirmed his safety, and began reuniting him with his family. The suspect is now in federal custody as investigations continue.
Martinez commended the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office for its dedication to combating human trafficking and safeguarding children. She emphasized that “Arizona will continue to stand with the men and women who confront this evil head-on and protect the most vulnerable.”
Teresa Martinez, a Republican elected in 2023, represents Legislative District 16 in Arizona’s House of Representatives. This district covers parts of Pinal and Pima Counties. Martinez also chairs the House Rural Economic Development Committee.
