Rep. Eli Crane, a U.S. Congressman representing Arizona’s 2nd district since 2023, used his social media platform on January 14, 2026, to call for support on amendments related to foreign aid and taxpayer funding.
In a post made at 15:22 UTC, Crane stated, “In 2023, 114 republicans opposed my amendment to cut USAID by 50%. Today, they have the chance to redeem themselves. Urge your representative to vote YES!” On the same day at 15:59 UTC, he reiterated his position by posting, “Urge your representative to vote YES on both of these amendments. Otherwise we’re just accepting the status quo.” Later that afternoon at 16:17 UTC, Crane added another message focused on government spending: “Urge your representative to vote YES. Taxpayers should NOT be funding NED.”
Crane’s posts refer to proposed amendments targeting reductions in U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) funding and eliminating taxpayer support for the National Endowment for Democracy (NED). The congressman previously introduced an amendment in 2023 aimed at cutting USAID funds by half; however, it was opposed by a significant number of Republican colleagues.
Eli Crane has served as the representative for Arizona’s 2nd District since defeating Tom O’Halleran in the 2022 election cycle and assuming office in early 2023. Born in Tucson in 1980 and currently residing in Oro Valley, Crane is among several lawmakers advocating for reduced federal spending abroad.
