Rep. Eli Crane, who represents Arizona’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, expressed concerns on social media about the conduct of what he termed “activist judges,” calling for their impeachment and greater accountability.

On September 4, 2025, Crane posted a series of statements on his X account. In an early morning post, he wrote, “I still think we should be impeaching activist judges.” Later that day, he expanded on his criticism by stating, “Activist judges are so out of control that they don’t even respect the Supreme Court. Why again can’t we impeach them or do anything to hold them accountable?” In a subsequent post made minutes later, Crane added: “Activist judges don’t respect the will of the American people. They don’t respect the legislative branch. They don’t even respect their own branch. They only respect their self-serving ability to abuse their titles for partisan gain. This is insane.”

Crane has represented Arizona’s 2nd congressional district since 2023 after succeeding Tom O’Halleran. Born in Tucson in 1980, Crane resides in Oro Valley and has become known for voicing strong opinions on judicial oversight.

Impeachment of federal judges is provided for under Article II of the U.S. Constitution but remains rare and requires approval by both chambers of Congress.
