Rep. Eli Crane, a U.S. Congressman representing Arizona’s 2nd district since 2023, posted a series of messages on January 14, 2026, urging his colleagues and the public to support efforts to defund the National Endowment for Democracy (NED).

In a tweet posted at 16:49 UTC, Crane stated, “The House has a chance to defund NED. The vote is TODAY. Urge your representative to vote YES.”

A few minutes later, he reiterated his stance with another message at 16:55 UTC: “DEFUND NED”.

At 17:53 UTC the same day, Crane highlighted compensation concerns regarding the leadership of NED: “The head of NED makes nearly twice as much money as Marco Rubio. Does that make sense to anyone? Urge your representative to vote YES on my amendment to defund NED.”

Eli Crane was born in Tucson, Arizona in 1980 and currently resides in Oro Valley. He succeeded Tom O’Halleran as the representative for Arizona’s 2nd district beginning in 2023.
