Rep. Eli Crane, who represents Arizona’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on January 7, 2026, regarding alleged fraud within Minnesota’s Somali community and congressional actions addressing it.

In his first post at 17:29 UTC, Crane stated: “Members of Minnesota’s Somali community defrauded U.S. taxpayers, funneled money to complicit politicians, and funded the Al-Shabaab terrorist network. Meanwhile, Tim Walz and other officials turned a blind eye and targeted whistleblowers. This is only the tip of the iceberg.”

Later that day at 18:54 UTC, he commented on recent developments in Congress by posting: “This is big. Congress should absolutely codify this ASAP.”

At 19:56 UTC on January 7, Crane referenced a hearing by the House Oversight Committee with another statement: “This morning, @GOPoversight held a hearing on the rampant fraud in Minnesota’s Somali community. Thanks to @nickshirleyy and Minnesota lawmakers, historic corruption was revealed, including stolen federal tax dollars funding politicians and terrorism:”

Crane has served as the representative for Arizona’s 2nd District since 2023 after succeeding Tom O’Halleran. Born in Tucson in 1980 and currently residing in Oro Valley, Crane has focused his congressional activity on issues of government oversight and national security.

The posts reference ongoing investigations into alleged misuse of federal funds within Minnesota’s Somali community as well as legislative efforts aimed at preventing similar cases in the future.
