The Pinal County Board of Supervisors hosted an appreciation luncheon on April 16 for about 60 community members who volunteer on one of the county’s eighteen Boards and Commissions. The event was held as part of Volunteer Appreciation Week, which runs from April 19 to April 26, and was sponsored by SRP.
The luncheon recognized the contributions of volunteers who dedicate their time to serving on various boards and commissions in Pinal County. The event aimed to thank these individuals for their service and encourage others in the community to consider volunteering.
According to the Arizona Department of Education, educational outcomes remain a concern in Pinal County. In the 2022-23 school year, 76.3% of students in grades three through eight did not pass the mathematics section of the AASA assessment, while 69.7% failed the English section. Among high schoolers, 81% did not pass the mathematics portion and 73% did not pass English on the ACT during that same year.
Recent data shows some improvement: the Arizona Department of Education reports that in the current school year (2023-24), about 17% of high school students passed the mathematics section of the ACT, while approximately 23% of third through eighth graders passed math on AASA assessments.
