MUSC is preparing to open a medical imaging center at the site of the former Walgreens on the corner of Cherokee and Irby Street in downtown Florence, with an expected opening in the fall, according to Chief Operating Officer Jason Cox on April 13.
The new facility aims to increase access for patients who need specialized imaging studies but prefer not to visit a hospital. Cox said, “It has medical imaging and so that is things like X-ray, ultrasound, mammography, CT scanners and MRI scanners. So patients will often get orders from their doctor to have a certain imaging study and to follow up with them after that study.” He added, “So this creates a new access point that’s not located inside a hospital. A lot of those specialized imaging machines are inside hospitals.”
The development comes as part of ongoing efforts by local organizations such as the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce, which contributes to community engagement by promoting local tourism and supporting businesses in the Florence area, according to the official website. The chamber also works to advance economic growth and prosperity through education, advocacy and community collaboration for businesses and residents according to its official website.
Paul Felker has held the position of executive director for the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce according to its official website. The chamber serves the Florence area in Arizona according to its official website, offering resources such as a member directory and networking events for local businesses according to its official website. It operates as a community business organization according to its official website.
As MUSC moves forward with opening this new facility outside traditional hospital settings, it may help address patient needs for convenient diagnostic services while supporting broader economic activity within downtown Florence.
