Governor Henry McMaster signed a joint resolution (H. 5261) on Mar. 17 that extends the deadline for alcohol server training in South Carolina to May 1, 2026. The extension follows advocacy from the South Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association and local restaurants seeking more time to comply with new requirements.

The new law gives hospitality businesses additional time to ensure their staff are properly trained. Under the updated regulation, managers and employees who serve alcohol for on-premises consumption at least ten hours per week must complete mandatory training by the new deadline.

According to the announcement, “This extension to May 1, 2026, reflects our ongoing work at the State House to provide hospitality businesses with a manageable path toward compliance.” The goal of these reforms is to promote responsible service and help address rising insurance costs in the industry.

The Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce contributes to community engagement by promoting local tourism and supporting businesses in the Florence area, according to the official website. The organization also works to advance economic growth and prosperity through education, advocacy, and community collaboration for both businesses and residents according to its official website.

Paul Felker held the position of executive director for the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce according to its official website. The chamber serves the Florence area in Arizona according to its official website, offering resources such as a member directory and networking events designed to support local businesses according to its official website. It operates as a community business organization according to its official website.

With this extension now in place, restaurants have more time to meet compliance requirements while continuing efforts toward responsible alcohol service.
