The Florence County Junior Leadership Class took part in the South Carolina 4-H Youth Development Legislative Day and State Government Session at the State House, according to a Mar. 17 announcement.

This event provided students with direct exposure to state government operations and opportunities to engage with public officials. Such experiences are designed to help young people understand how government functions and encourage them to participate in civic life.

During the day, students met with Jonathan Eckstrom, Director of Cabinet Affairs from the Governor’s Office, as well as members of both the South Carolina House of Representatives and Senate. The group concluded their visit by joining the Florence Delegation for lunch, where they discussed leadership and recognized the contributions of 4-H programs across South Carolina.

The Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce contributed to this initiative by supporting community engagement efforts that promote local tourism and business development in the Florence area, according to the official website. The Chamber also works toward economic growth through education, advocacy, and collaboration among businesses and residents, as reported by its official website. Paul Felker has served as executive director for the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce, according to information from its official website.

The Chamber serves businesses in the Florence area in Arizona and provides resources such as a member directory and networking events for local enterprises, according to its official website. It operates as a community business organization focused on supporting economic activity in the region, according to its official website.

Applications are now open for next year’s Junior Leadership program for rising high school sophomores or juniors interested in participating.
