GE HealthCare has donated $20,000 to the Pee Dee Coalition, a non-profit organization focused on reducing sexual assault, family violence, and child abuse in the community. The donation was presented on January 9.

The Pee Dee Coalition serves eight counties: Florence, Darlington, Marion, Dillon, Chesterfield, Marlboro, Williamsburg, and Sumter. For nearly four decades, it has provided services for thousands of victims and survivors across the Pee Dee region.

According to the organization’s statement: “It is the belief of the Pee Dee Coalition that the reduction of family violence, sexual assault, and child abuse is a community issue and concerns the total community—not only women—not only service providers—but all who value the basic human desire to be free from physical threat and harm. Through the efforts of Pee Dee Coalition in its entirety, the region will be a safer, more compassionate community.”

The funds will support PEPS (Parent Education Parent Support), a 12-week program started in 1996 for at-risk parents or caregivers facing issues related to abuse and neglect. The program aims to strengthen families by helping parents develop positive relationships with their children through skills development and peer support. As stated by Pee Dee Coalition: “PEPS is an integral part of the Coalitions mission to reduce child abuse through increasing protective factors and reducing risk factors.”
