Florence 1 Schools (F1S) is partnering with Blue Zones to promote health and well-being among its employees, students, families, and the broader community. This effort includes participation in the Blue Zones Walk at Work Moai Challenge, which encourages staff and teachers to form small walking groups known as “moais.” These groups will walk together for 10 weeks starting September 8th and ending November 21st.
The concept of “moais” originates from Okinawa, Japan, where people create small support groups that engage in positive activities together. F1S aims to mirror this practice by encouraging regular walking among staff. According to the district, regular walking can help reduce stress levels, improve mood and sleep quality, and lower the risk of various diseases.
Businesses are also invited to join the challenge. Interested participants should select a moai leader who will register their group by August 29th using a QR code provided in an attached flyer. For additional details or questions about registration, Dr. Cathy Lee serves as the F1S Blue Zones Well-Being Coordinator and can be reached at clee@fsd1.org.
