Cost of college decreased for all Central Arizona College students during 2022-23 school year

Central Arizona College saw a 41.9% reduction in in-state tuition for the 2022-23 school year, based on the latest figures released, according to the latest disclosure from the National Center for Education Statistics.

Arizona residents paid $1,500 to attend the two-year public college this year, which is $1,080 less than the $2,580 tuition charged during the 2021-22 academic year.

Non-resident students were charged double the in-state rate in 2022-23, paying $3,000. This represented a 41.9% decrease from the $5,160 tuition fee in the 2021-22 school year.

Approximately 96% of the undergraduate body at Central Arizona College are Arizona residents, with about 1% coming from other states and another 1% being international students.

Data indicates that 83% of full-time undergraduates who began studies at Central Arizona College in 2022-23 received some form of financial aid. A total of 315 students were awarded grants or scholarships amounting to $1.5 million, while 20 students borrowed over $67,511 in student loans.

Across the entire undergraduate population, 2,618 students benefited from grants or scholarships totaling $8.5 million. Additionally, 141 students secured federal student loans amounting to $684,434.

Undergraduate education costs have seen a significant increase over the past few decades. Data shows a 169% rise in the average total cost, including tuition, fees, room, and board, between 1980 and 2020.

According to a 2023 College Board report, in-state students at public universities paid an average of $11,260, while out-of-state students paid $29,150 in the 2023-24 academic year.

Meanwhile, student loan debt has steadily increased over the last 30 years, reaching $1.75 trillion in 2024, averaging a total of $28,950 per borrower. Federal loans make up 92% of the debt, with over half of students at both public and private four-year colleges graduating with student loans.
