The City of Casa Grande is organizing its annual Children’s Flower Garden Event to raise awareness about child abuse and support young victims. The event, hosted by the City Attorney’s Office Victim Services Program in partnership with the Casa Grande Elementary School District, will take place on November 5 at 10:00 a.m. at the City Hall Plaza flower garden.

The event honors children who have been victims of abuse. Students will plant flowers as a symbol of hope and healing.

“Gardening teaches children the importance of nurturing living things while helping them express emotions in a healthy way,” said Terry Montijo, Victim Services Coordinator.

Child abuse continues to be a concern nationwide. The National Children’s Alliance reports that over 550,000 children are abused each year, with nearly half of all fatalities involving infants under one year old. In 2024, Children’s Advocacy Centers across the United States provided help and support to 370,000 children experiencing abuse. Events such as this aim to remind communities about their role in prevention and supporting affected youth.

This year’s event is sponsored by Artistic Land Management, Inc., and includes participation from Desert Willow Elementary School, McCartney Ranch Elementary School, Mesquite Elementary School, Casa Grande Middle School, and Vista Grande High School Student Athletic/Activity Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Special performances are planned by the Casa Grande Union High School Cougar Spiritline as well as trumpet and saxophone groups from Casa Grande Union High School. Local organizations including Against Abuse, Inc., Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sun Corridor, and the Casa Grande Fire Department will also participate by offering activities and educational resources.

The City Attorney’s Office Victim Services Program offers ongoing support for crime victims. More information is available on the city website or by calling (520) 421-8600.
