The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced that Sundt Construction is the highest-ranking contractor selected for the State Route 347 Improvement Project. The project will focus on a 15-mile stretch of SR 347 between Interstate 10 and the City of Maricopa, passing through Maricopa and Pinal counties and primarily within the Gila River Indian Community.

Negotiations with Sundt Construction for pre-construction services are set to begin next week, with an agreement expected by February. This process will allow Sundt’s team to contribute to the ongoing design work for the improvements.

According to ADOT, planned upgrades include adding one lane in each direction along SR 347 from I-10 to Maricopa, rehabilitating existing pavement over the same distance, building new grade-separated interchanges at Riggs Road and Mammoth Way, and making intersection improvements at Casa Blanca Road and Maricopa Road.

“Once complete, the SR 347 Improvement Project will provide added capacity, help alleviate congestion, and improve safety and traffic flow along this busy stretch of roadway that drivers depend on every day,” stated ADOT.

Construction is scheduled to start this summer and is expected to last about three years. The total budget for the project is $396 million. Funding comes from state sources as well as contributions from the Maricopa Association of Governments, City of Maricopa, and Pinal County. No federal funding is involved in this project.
