AESC, an electric vehicle battery cell manufacturer, paused its Florence plant project in June due to changes in federal energy policy. The project remains on hold as of late November but may soon resume.

Brad Grantham, AESC’s head of U.S. Communications, attributed the halt to “federal policy changes affecting the entire energy sector.” He stated that discussions are underway with various industries to continue production at the site and indicated more details could be available in the coming months.

Scotty Davis, city manager for Florence, said AESC is working to meet requirements set by legislation referred to as the “Big Beautiful Bill” and expects the project will restart soon.

“The project remains paused at the moment, but we are in active discussions to restart the project as soon as possible,” Grantham said. “We remain fully committed to delivering 1,600 jobs in the region and over $1.6 billion in direct investment.”
