The Pinal County Board of Supervisors has voted unanimously to highly recommend the wearing of face coverings in public but will not mandate masks.
The order only applies to unincorporated Pinal County and does not have any effect on the cities and towns in Pinal County.
"The health, safety, and welfare of our citizens are our primary concerns," Anthony Smith, chairman of the board, said according to the Pinal County website. "I encourage all residents and visitors to Pinal County to wear a face mask when in public. With this added precaution, businesses should remain open, and the spread of the COVID-19 virus will be contained."
Pinal County residents are encouraged to wear a face covering when utilizing public transportation. Residents are also encouraged to wear masks when social distancing is not possible.
Pinal County Departments and Elected Officials, contractors and volunteers are encouraged to require employees to wear masks whenever they interface with the public. Public safety officers are not required to wear masks while on duty unless specified by the Sheriff.
